Hi,

We are using Polycom IP650 and Asterisk in our office.   We have noticed that if a laptop/desktop is connect to the LAN via PC port of IP650 downloading/uploading is much slower than when laptop/desktop is directly connected to the switch.   Is this a known problem?  Does anyone has a solution to this or any suggestion on how to resolve this?

Thanks,

Hello Ratchet,

Welcome to the Polycom Community.

I am unaware what Switch Infrastructure you have deployed in your Office but the SoundPoint IP 650 utilizes a 100MBit Ethernet Connection and offers a 100MBit Ethernet Switch Port for your PC or an additional Phone.

I am not aware how the PC Port is configured (could be 10MBit) or if the switches in your Office are Gigabit so you should work with your Polycom Reseller to check the settings of the Phone. Many Settings can be changed via the Phones GUI so this should be a good place to start.

Please familiarize yourself with the SPIP650 Support Page and Administration Documentation at http://support.polycom.com/PolycomService/support/us/support/voice/soundpoint_ip/soundpoint_ip650.ht...

Hi Steffen,

Thanks for your response.   We use Cisco 3750 switch that supports gigabit ethernet.  Not sure how the PC port is configured though.  How do I check that and modify it if necessary.

There are lots of documentation in the link you provide and I'm not sure where to start to find the answer.

Hello Ratchet,

as previously mentioned the SPIP650 is only a 100MBit FD Device, your switch seems to be a 1000MBit FD.

You can check the PC/Phone Port settings via:

Menu Button =>  Settings => Advanced (usually the password is 456) => Admin Settings => Network Settings => scroll down to Ethernet Menu => scroll down and the Lan Port/PC Port Settings are shown.

Usually they would be set to Auto (=100MB FD)

Your Switch Infrastructure and your Laptop seem to support Gigabit Ethernet (100MBit FD) and are therefore "quicker" in your Opinion than if the Laptop is connected via the Phone.

Best regards
