I am a novice user when it comes to the Polycom Sound Statio IP products and am having some issues using the Split version of the Polycom software.

The customer site where I am deploying these devices is not currently using any other Polycom IP products. The SIP Version of the phones that were shipped are version 3.3.3.0069 (P\N 3150-11530-333) and their Boot ROM version are 4.3.1.0887 (Assembly 3111-15600-001 Rev U). This appears to be the current versions being shipped when I look at the Polycom Release matrix on their WEB site (http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html). Based on this, I downloaded the Combined and Split versions of UC Softwaresoftware 3.3.3 from the Polycom WEB site. The Split version of the software is approximately a third of the size of the Combined version of the software so for this reason I would like to deploy using the Split version. I used the following process to setup Auto Provisioning on my FTP server:

1) Copied the required files into the Root directory of the FTP server:

000000000000.cfg

site.cfg

sip.ver

all of the split versions of the sip.ld files (in this case, the phone would be looking for 3111-15600-001.sip.ld)

2) Created a <MAC>.cfg file for one of the phones (0004f2f8070a.cfg) by copying the Master Config file and tayloring it as required and then saving it as <MAC>.cfg

2) In the 000000000000.cfg and 0004f2f8070a.cfg files, specified that the phone should use its specific sip.ld version (APP_FILE_PATH="[PHONE_PART_NUMBER].sip.ld)

3) Created a registration file for the phone: 0004f2f8070a-phone.cfg

4) Modified the <MAC>.cfg file to specified what config files the phone should be looking

CONFIG_FILES="<0004f2f8070a-phone.cfg, site.cfg"

When I boot the phone, I see the following information in the FTP log:

(082984)05/03/2015 12:18:38 PM - plcmspip (172.24.20.35)> SIZE 3111-15600-001.bootrom.ld

The phone is able to see all of the config files and registers but it does not see the Split sip.ld file or the bootrom file. The phone appears to be looking for the Split version of these files first and then looks for the Combined version of the file. I put the combined version of the software on the FTP server, the download starts but then fails after about 20 minutes. My questions are:

1) When the phone boots and you have the Combined version of the software on the FTP server, why does it try to down load the sip.ld file?

- shouldn't the phone recognize the fact that it has that version of sip.ld installed and not request the download (i.e. only request the download if it sees a newer version of the sip.ld file)

2) Should I be putting a copy of the current bootrom on the FTP server?

- I'm not sure why a copy of the bootrom is not included in the software but suspect that this is not done due to the fact that the sip.ld and bootrom versions are independent of one another

- is it best practice to put a copy of the bootrom on the FTP server

- if a copy of the bootrom is put on the FTP server, will it attempt to download it each time the phone boots or will it only download it if it sees a newer version

3) Why is the phone able to see the Combined version of the sip.ld file on the FTP server but it does not recognize the Split version of the file

- the name of the split version of the file for this model of phone is 3111-15600-001.sip.ld

- why can't the phone see this file on the FTP server

- why does the FTP log show that the phone is looking for a file named 3111-15600-001.3111-15600-001.sip.ld

4) Should I be installing a newer version of sip.ld

- these phones are being connected to an NEC PBX

- I have seen newer versions of the software on the Polycom WEB site (UC Software 4.1.0 Rev S, Polycom Updater 5.0.8, etc)

- bootrom 4.3.1 appears to be the most current bootrom available

Sorry for the long post, I have a lot of questions at this point.

Thanks, Al

Hello ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

The above explains everything in detail.

You do not require to touch the APP_FILE_PATH as the phone will automatically attempt to load the sip.ld or the partnumber.sip.ld

Thanks for the link!

I have read through the information and modified my config file accordingly and things are working now. Do you know where I can download a copy of bootrom 4.3.1.0887? The only version that I can find on the Polycom WEB site is 4.3.1.044.

Hello Al_Trevisan_NEC,

I am unsure why you want to run UC Software 3.3.0 instead of the latest UC Software 4.0.8 ?

Hi Steffen.

I have downloaded the 4.0.0 Administration Guide and had a quick look at the software update \ upgrade process. Due to time constraints, I plan to deply the units with the existing software version (3.3.3) and then go back to site some time in the next couple of weeks and upgrade them to 4.0.8 (we are initially depolying 6 units).

I have also downloaded the 4.0.8 software (combined and split) as well as the 5.0.8 updater but still can't find where the 4.1.3.0887 bootrom is.

Can you send me a link to where I can download this software from?

Thanks, Al

Hello Al_Trevisan_NEC,

All supported Software Versions are hosted on the relevant sites.

For the SSIP6000 this is => here <= and this page also list's previous version. I am unsure why you are after this specific Build number.

It may be a error in a documentation that this is being listed and all supported BootROM version can be downloaded from the above.

Hi Steffen.

Thanks for the link. The site where the link points to is where I have been looking for the bootrom. Ther are two different versions of 4.3.1 on the site: 4.3.1 and 4.3.1.0440. I determined this by looking at the Release Notes for each download option, specifically the Distribution Files section. The first Release Note specifies that it is version 4.3.1

1.6 Distribution Files

The following files constitute the 4.3.1 distribution of the SoundPoint IP/SoundStation IP BootRom software.

The second Release Note specifies that it is version 4.4.1.0440:

1.6 Distribution Files

The following files constitute the 4.3.1.0440 distribution of the SoundPoint IP/SoundStation IP/VVX BootROM software

When I originally downloaded the 4.3.1.0440 bootrom, I did not realize that it was an older version than the one the phones were shipped with (version 4.3.1.0887). The download link on the WEB site does not specify the sub-version, it just specifies that it is 4.3.1. I downloaded the one with the more recent date and assumed that it was the current version that was being shipped with the phones. After the fact, I realized that the Release Notes specified the actual sub-version.

When I placed this older version on the FTP server, the phone downloaded it and it is now running on the older bootrom release. I now need to find out where I can download the latest version of the bootrom so that I can upgrade it back to the current bootrom release. I can not find this anywhere on the Polycom WEB site.

Any assistance in finding it would be appreciated 🙂

Thanks, Al
