Hello,

we are running Cisco 3850 switches and our logs are filling up quickly for an estimated 6000 devices based on the switch indicating a short has been detected.

Cisco log:

May  8 10:06:14.108: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gix/x/xx: Power Controller reports Short detected

We have the following phone types

IP 335

IP 650

IP 5000

the soundstation IP 5000 is not showing the short.

Further testing shows which pairs are shorted.  For instance, the Polycom 335s show shorts on local pairs C and D and the Polycom 650s short Pairs A, C, and D.

any advice or help on correction would be great.
FYI this is on 100% of our 335 and 650s.

Hello BradBros,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

I have never heard of anything like this and would assume these phones are still up and working ?

Have you contacted Cisco yet on this why their switch assumes that all phones would shorten the port if standard cabling is being used?

I suggest, once you checked with cisco on this, to raise a support case via your Polycom reseller.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Did you get any further with this one? Just interested what the reason was for the notification of the short?
