SoundStation IP 6000 w/ flashing red lights, possible solution to repair out of warranty phones

For everyone with out of warranty Polycom Soundstation IP 6000 phones that have been frustrated with the support in the forum, I just wanted to share a solution that worked for mine.  We had a phone 13 months old, bought from a reseller (not Polycom authorized didn't realized that mattered when purcahsing) and got no assitance and an offer to pay way too much for a refurb that comes with a short warranty and was a little frustrated when I came here to see so many people with the same issue and no response from Polycom addressing the issue other than to just tell members here how old thier phones were.

Since the phone was out of warranty like many of yours, what do I have to lose by opening it up. So I decided to explore in the phone a little more and opened it up to see what was possibly going on.  What I found is one of the capacitors on the board was very loose, and when I lightly touched it, it came comepletely off the board.  So I broke out the crappy soldering iron we had in the office did a quick and horrible soldering job but got it re-attached.

Suprise, the phone didn't have flashing red-lights and booted right up.  If you also have out of warranty phones and don't mind checking your phone, I'm just passing this along for those that might want try and do a quick fix on thier phones.   So it might be differnt for yous  but just something to check if you find youself in this situtation.  The whole process of opening up the phone and soldering (including heat up time for the soldering iron was less than 15min.  Pics are enclosed of what I soldered back on, but if someone dropped or bumped the phone hard, I could see these possibly coming loose and casusing this issue in an office environment.

Re: SoundStation IP 6000 w/ flashing red lights, possible solution to repair out of warranty phones

Hello @DHG2496 ,

Poly does NOT recommend disassembling/assembling defective devices and perform repairs as this may negatively impact aspects like safety, EMC, regulatory compliance and audio performance of the device. Poly recommends to RMA defective units.

Poly usually offers a 12-month manufacturer warranty.

Without inspection of a defective (un-opened) device, we cannot comment on the potential root cause. We are aware of one case, where inspection of the defective device revealed that a capacitator became loose because the unit had been dropped.

I will contact you outside of the community as your issue most likely does not match other older posts with faulty SSIP6000 units.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier
