We currently have 300 vvx500 phones and 180 vvx300 phones. Is there a way to update the firmware on the phones in small groups. I am trying to avoid all phones trying to update at once when i put the new firmware on the ftp server.

Hello @rkrick99,

none of these version are supported anymore as you should be on UC Software 5.8.0 or at least 5.7.2

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: What is the relevance of the 000000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

The above explains how you can use this file and add additional groups or sections with providing the Phone model name aka _VVX300 to only apply a certain new software to VVX300 phones.

I also suggest to look at:

Nov 24, 2014 Question:How can the Phone automatically check / poll for configuration changes or new software versions?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

The above explains how you can use this to randomly use individual phones to try for a new software instead all at the same time.

In addition you could create individual <mac>.cfg file specifying a software so only the phones having an individual file would upgrade.

If you want something professional look at Polycom RealPresence Resource Manager or our new PDMS service.

Hello @rkrick99,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used UC Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

Please also include if you are using a SIP server or a LYNC / Skype for Business server.

If LYNC or Skype please provide Version details and if these are on premise of off premise

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP or UC Software Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

My appologies, I will remember to post software versions next time. We just use a sip server for our phones. We are using 2 different modles of phones, VVX500 at our HO and the VVX300 at our remote locations. We use UC ver 4.1.6 for the VVX500 and UC ver 5.2.7 for the VVX 300 phones.

I am not sure why but I setup the polling inteval on the vvx300 phones and tested it and the phone updated. I set the sam setting in the vvx500 and it does not seem to work. Is there any other setting that may cancel out the poll settings.

Hello @rkrick99,

You have neither attached any logs or the configuration used or a backup.

I suggest you compare a backup of a working phone and then maybe attach some logs.

If you are still stuck open a ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.

End Customers are unable to open a ticket directly with Polycom support.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post either your phone's MAC address or your Polycom devices serial so I can look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Polycom device from.

FOr some reason the time was off on the phone, I have corrected the problem and I was able to get the phone to update.

My last question, is there a way to have the phones poll on a specific day of the week, we were looking to have either saturday or sunday?
