Hello,

I followed this article to configure updates for VVX phones: http://blog.schertz.name/2013/10/updating-polycom-vvx-phones/

Everything looks good, but when I approved latest update for the phones, Our phones keep rebooting every 10-15 minutes. During reboot I see messages that the phone is being updated. They reboot for at least 24 hours now.

I wanted to tell you about our setup. We cannot use DHCP setting, because we use option 66 for something else, so we manually configure ftp server with 5.0.0.6874 firmware. Not sure if it is important. For some of the phones I switched back to use option 66, for others I left that custom ftp server.

The phones are still rebooting and not usable. What should I do? Can someone help me?

Thank you.

Hello Kbapa,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

Jeff's article does not mention to use FTP. You would utilize the LYNC server just as the CX phones do.

If you use FTP and DHCP you can simply use option 160 which is the standard option before option 66 is queried.

I suggest you contact your Polycom reseller so they can offer you the support you need to troubleshoot this further if the FAQ hosted within the community does not help you.

Please be aware of the following when utilizing UCS 4.1.0 or later:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

Information in regards of License Part Numbers can be found => here <=

I use ftp server to update from 4.1x to 5.0.0.6874 firmware. After that I want to use Lync server.

I thought I mention that I use ftp server, just in case this could create a problem for me. I do not want to use it. When I could buy phones with at least 5.0.0.6874 firmware, I will turn it off.

Not sure that my reseller will help me with the phones, we bought them long time ago. Not sure when.

I hoped that someone on forum could help.

Hello Kbapa,

as explained you can use Option 160 so you do not need to touch the phones in order to add any provisioning details.

The terminology of approval is used on the LYNC server and does not match the scenario you described in regards of a FTP server.

I simply suggest you check your log files as the phones should write these to the server.

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above explains how to setup a server correctly in detail and the FAQ itself contains multiple other troubleshooting post's.

Your Polycom reseller can get in touch with Polycom as they / you can pay a PPI fee in order to receive support outside of the warranty process.

Not sure why you think that ftp is not supported. As far as I understand, I can either use DHCP option or manually add IP address for ftp server to the phone. I am using the second option.

I use ftp server to update firmware to the level, where I can use Lync updates after that.

Do you think I am doing it wrong? Why? What is not supported here?

Thank you.

Hello KPABA,

I never stated that FTP is not supported.

What I did mention is that the term "pushing an update" is a LYNC related term which describes a similar functionality as used on the CX phones where you can approve certain versions for certain phones.

Using a simple FTP server is not something I would associate with this terminology.

I then advised you to use DHCP Option 160 as you had stated you could not use Option 66.

If you phone is stuck in a constant reboot loop I suggested to check the logs for the root cause as the phone should write these to the server.

Once you upgraded the phone to UCS 5.0.0 or newer you can upload the CAB files and let the phone load this from the LYNC server.

Best Regards
