Hello @Sebastian1 ,

again:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: What is the relevance of the 000000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

The above explains that the  <mac>-phone.cfg and/or <mac>-web.cfg are created by the phone.

It also has an unsupported Link to a Perl Script creating the relevant files automatically.

The same fact is detailed in:

Mar 08, 2013 QuestionWhat files does my phone download or upload and why?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Substitution is explained:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: Can I use substitutions when I provisioning my Phones?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

You must not create either <mac>-phone.cfg and/or <mac>-web.cfg s outlined in the admin guide!

The files can be named anything as long as they are not named the above. Again you can use Substitution to auto-complete the file name including the MAC, Part Number or Phone Model.

Your original post mentions 2 individual phones. Simply copy the 000000000000.cfg, rename into the 2 different MAC's and then add for each the Configuration File you want them to use and call them in the Config_File Section.

If you still struggle, and nobody else wants to spend their time explaining this to you in minute detail, please go ahead and open a support ticket.

Alternatively, look at Polycom RealPresence ResourceManager or PMSE-E

In order to raise a support ticket, you need to work with your Poly reseller as they need to do this for you.

End Customers are unable to open a ticket directly with Poly support.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter providing your MAC address or your Poly devices serial will enable us to look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Poly device from.

If the unit is no longer within the warranty please be prepared to Pay Per Incident / PPI. This is all outlined in detail here

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier

@Sebastian1  The phone on boot up looks for a  [MACADDRESS].cfg or 000000000000.cfg file.

Above statement was edited by a moderator for accuracy

This file is the master provisioning file and used to tell the phone which files to download for configuration, what firmware to use and where stuff is located.  ie, where log files go,where override files go, and other stuff.

The CONFIG_FILES_VVX501 section is used to specify which files to use. you can name your config file whatever you want as long as they are referenced in this file so it knows to download the file. If any file specified is missing the phone will treat it like all files are missing and fail to provision.

The macaddress-phone.cfg, macaddress-web.cfg are considered override files. When you make changes to the Phone via web or on the phone those chages are saved to that file and uploaded to the fileserver in the Overrides directory. When the phone is rebooted it downloads those files if present and the config files specified in the master config file.

[MACADDRESS] will be replaced with the phones mac address.

since you are using a single file to setup all your phones then using separate directory would be the best way to achieve what you are trying to do.

Hi,

Thanks again for the info.

Everything is working well.

The one point I struggled with beforehand was just not knowing if I can call the file "macaddress-whatever.cfg" or if the name after Mac address has to be anything specific (excluding  <mac>-phone.cfg and/or <mac>-web.cfg) as these are reserved.

I ended up leaving my setup as is and adding 2 additinal files into the 000000000.cfg called "macaddress-custom.cfg" just for the 2 phones I required changes to. This way any major system changes in my custom cfg files which target all phones will also be received by the 2 which are different.

Thanks for all the help
