VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hello,

Today I am trying to make the new VVX Color EM to work with VVX410. it is so difficult as there are so few documentation there and the doc i found assume you are expert of UCS software already. this is my VVX410 software version,

Phone Information Phone Model VVX 410 Part Number 3111-46162-001 Rev:A MAC Address 00:04:F2:86:DA:A8 IP Address 172.23.19.35 UC Software Version 4.1.6.4835 BootROM Software Version

5.1.6.3978

Only by reading the post here i figure out I need use 4.1.6 version to make it works with EM. But I am not able to configure any line using 'Web Configuration Utility'. first of all, I select 'settings->lines', it is only show 34 lines. I am expecting 12(on phone) + 28 * 3 = 96 lines. anyway, I try to configure one of the line (line number 34), nothing shown up on EM,

here is my configuration,

ine 34

 Identification

Display Name Address Label Type  Private  Shared Third Party Name Number of Line Keys Calls Per Line Enable SRTP  Yes  No Offer SRTP  Yes  No Server Auto Discovery  Enable  Disable

In one of polycom documentation, I read 'need to assign lineKey.reassignment.enabled to 1'. believe it is referring to my xml configuration file. do I need a centralized provisioning server to upload this configuraiton file to the phone? where can I find the template for this?

Pls help.

thanks.

Hello limeng1975,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

You post is quite difficult to read.

To answer one of your questions, you do not need a provisioning server in order to import configuration files.

The community's VoIP => FAQ <= contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: Do I always need a Provisioning Server or can I configure a Phone via the Web Interface or via the Phone Gui?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above explains the possibilities depending on your software version.

The maximum amount of lines supported by your phone are stated in the data sheet => here <= and also in the Polycom®  VVX®  Expansion Modules with Polycom® VVX Business Media Phones Feature Profile 78960 document => here <=

For the VVX400 / VVX410 it is 12 Lines

You may also want to look at this:

Jan 12, 2012 Question: Can I change / re-assign the appearance of  Line, BLF, Speed Dial and Presence Keys?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

I can also recommend to utilize the community search as there are already a few topics going over the same.

And if all of the above is not sufficient please work with your Polycom reseller for first level support.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

thanks for your reply. but still difficult to understand.

it is saying 'lineKey.reassignment.enabled' need set to 1 to enble the Expansion Module, am I right?

it is also saying,

----------------------

> UCS 4.0.x

Since the introduction of the UCS 4.0.0 Software the possibility to import a configuration file was introduced.

This is useful in order to add configuration changes to an individual phone with Parameters that are not available to change via the Web Interface or the Phone GUI.

The expected format would be an XML file with the .cfg as a file extension

---------------------

so it means this feild is inside this .cfg XML file? But where can I have the template? Do I need write this cfg file from scratch?

thanks!

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hello limeng1975,

if you are running a VVX410 and you are using an extension module then you require UCS 4.1.6 as outlined in the FAQ post.

You can program the maximum value of Line keys that is allowed for the VVX410 and this will be automatically assigned to the first key's.

Any subsequent Speed Dial or Presence / BLF will share all the other available keys.

Only if you want to change the appearance of these keys the lineKey parameter would be used.

The following are available:

  • Unassigned, Line, BLF, SpeedDial, and Presence

A quick example from a VVX310 (which has less keys!) here:

reg.1.address="3009"
reg.1.auth.userId="3009"
reg.1.auth.password="3009"
reg.1.server.1.address="10.252.122.122"
attendant.resourceList.1.address="3010@10.252.122.122" attendant.resourceList.1.label="3010"
attendant.resourceList.2.address="3011@10.252.122.122" attendant.resourceList.2.label="3011"
attendant.resourceList.3.address="3012@10.252.122.122" attendant.resourceList.3.label="3012"

Above would assign 1x Line and 3 BLF's on the Main Phone

You may not want these on the main Phone so you could use the above parameter to "push" the BLF's to the Expansion Module.

lineKey.reassignment.enabled="1"
lineKey.1.category="Line"
lineKey.1.index="1"
lineKey.7.category="BLF"
lineKey.7.index="0"
lineKey.8.category="BLF"
lineKey.8.index="0"
lineKey.9.category="BLF"
lineKey.9.index="0"
lineKey.2.category="unassigned"
lineKey.3.category="unassigned"
lineKey.4.category="unassigned"
lineKey.5.category="unassigned"
lineKey.6.category="unassigned"

Above should be quite self explanatory

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Thanks for your reply. But really sorry, I am still not sure what to do....

(1) I am using web utility try to import the configuration file to the phone (yes, I am running

4.1.6.4835 with the color EM). the doc only say it should be a .cfg XML file. But what is the file name? can I name it anything I like?

(2) Are you saying I need configure 12 lines on VVX410 first (It has 12 lines on main phone), then the next line configuraiton will be pushed to EM? Pls elaborate.

Sorry for the basic questions, thank you very much!

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

I have read the UCS 4.0 Admin guide, and come to understand the phone will look at a master configuration file (000000000.cfg) and I have modified it to include 'shared.cfg' , here is the snippets,

<lineKey lineKey.reassignment.enabled="1" lineKey.1.category="Line" reg.1.address="meng_3.li@BI.com"
reg.1.auth.userId="6564198670" reg.1.auth.password="5123986" reg.1.server.1.address="BI.com" reg.1.lineKeys="3"
reg.1.server.1.register="1" reg.1.displayName="Li Meng" reg.1.label="Li Meng" lineKey.1.index="1" lineKey.7.category="BLF"
lineKey.8.category="BLF" lineKey.9.category="BLF" lineKey.7.index="7" lineKey.8.index="8" lineKey.9.index="9"></lineKey>   <attendant attendant.reg="1" attendant.ringType="ringer1" attendant.uri="BI.com">     <attendant.resourceList attendant.resourceList.7.address="leo.wang@BI.com" attendant.resourceList.7.label="Leo"
attendant.resourceList.8.address="sze-wee.tan@BI.com" attendant.resourceList.8.label="Boss"
attendant.resourceList.9.address="kent.shi@BI.com" attendant.resourceList.9.label="Kent" />   </attendant>

the full file is as attachment.

I only can see the line is registered per normal. but still not able to see the other 3 as BLF. anything I missing?

your help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hello limeng,

I formatted you post for better visibility.

I would expect instead of yours:

lineKey.7.index="7"
lineKey.8.index="8"
lineKey.9.index="9"

to use

lineKey.7.index="0"
lineKey.8.index="0"
lineKey.9.index="0"

This is also shown in my example and documented in the Admin Guide:

For lines, the index for line numbers. For speed dials, the speed dial index. For BLF or presence, 0. For unassigned, the value is ignored.

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hi Steffen,

thanks for your reply. and I read the Admin guide, it is saying 'BLF' is not supported for working with Mricrosoft Lync (we are using 2010). so I decide to configure 'Presence' instead. I make a good progress as once I have

====================================================
 <lineKey lineKey.reassignment.enabled="1" lineKey.1.category="Line" reg.1.address="meng_3.li@BI.com" reg.1.auth.userId="6564198670" reg.1.auth.password="5123986" reg.1.server.1.address="BI.com" reg.1.lineKeys="3" reg.1.server.1.register="1" reg.1.displayName="Li Meng" reg.1.label="Li Meng" lineKey.1.index="1"></lineKey>
  <feature feature.autoLocalHold="0" feature.presence.enabled="1"></feature>
  <pres pres.idleSoftKeys="1" pres.reg="1" lineKey.7.category="Presence" lineKey.8.category="Presence" lineKey.9.category="Presence" lineKey.34.category="Presence" lineKey.35.category="Presence" lineKey.36.category="Presence" lineKey.37.category="Presence" lineKey.38.category="Presence" lineKey.39.category="Presence" lineKey.40.category="Presence" lineKey.41.category="Presence" lineKey.42.category="Presence"></pres>
=====================================================

in shared.cfg, it immediately 'pull' my frequent contact in Lync client to the presence key defined. I can monitor my colleague's status and also make call or transfer the call to them.

But I want to 'statically' assign the key to monitor a specific colleague in my company. So i expected i need configure something like lineKey.9.reg=Jonny@BI.com.  lineKey9.reg.server=BI.com. ....I try so mnay times still unsuccesfuly due to I can not find a Presence example in the admin guide, so i do not know the syntax. the Presence example in the admin guide is a little bit oversimplied as only show you the end result!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hello limeng1975,

This is actually the first time, to my knowledge,that you mentioned that you are using LYNC.

Please be aware of the following when utilizing UCS 4.1.0 or later:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

Information in regards of License Part Numbers can be found => here <=

LYNC Contacts / Favorites in this case use the Presence facility.

Below Example:

LYNC_Presence_Test.PNG

Utilizes the following configuration:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<ExampleLineKeyAssignments
lineKey.reassignment.enabled="1"
lineKey.1.category="Line"
lineKey.1.index="1"
lineKey.7.category="Presence"
lineKey.7.index="0"
lineKey.8.category="Presence"
lineKey.8.index="0"
lineKey.9.category="Presence"
lineKey.10.index="0"
lineKey.10.category="Presence"
lineKey.11.index="0"
lineKey.11.category="Presence"
lineKey.9.index="0"
lineKey.2.category="unassigned"
lineKey.3.category="unassigned"
lineKey.4.category="unassigned"
lineKey.5.category="unassigned"
lineKey.6.category="unassigned"
/>

For any follow up questions please work with your Polycom reseller.

Re: VVX Color Expansion Module + VVX 410

Hi Steffen,

thanks for your reminder regarding the license, I will talk to my reseller to make sure I have proper license for the phone.

But for the "Presence", I already got the one shown in the picture of your last reply. Yes, after I configure the line as "presence" category, it is Auto populate my Lync's 'Frequent Contact'.

My Question is, How to configure the Line "statically". Meaning, whoever login to the reception phone, it will showing the same "Presence"?

For example, John is a sale person, who will received outside calls often. So i want to asign line 34 (which is on EM) to monitoring his presence and transfer call to him (regarding whoever login to reception phone).

I expected I need configure somehting like, lineKey.9.category = "Presence", lineKey.9.address = "sip:John@mycompany.com".... Need your help on the correct syntax as I can not find it in the Polycom admin guide.

sorry, As I am using Polycom phone only with Microsoft Lync, so I forget to mention it from beginning.

thanks!
