I have not been able to get the LED's on the VVX sidecars to work with Buddy Watch. The indicator on the screen works, but the LED does not.

I have been looking through the forums, and there is some contradicting pages when it comes to VVX phones and Buddy Watch using the LED's.  According to => this <= thread, the LED's don't work, citing VOIP-85319.  However, according to the FAQ page => here <= the LED's don't work before 5.3.0, which implies that they are now working.

Since the thread with the issue number is a few years old, maybe it has been resolved?  However, the FAQ thread is not much newer.  In any case, any ideas on why it wouldn't be working?

Hello telma_gor,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used SIP or UC Software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

Please also include if you are using a SIP server or a LYNC server

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

The above is also stated in the "Read First: Welcome to the Polycom VoIP Forum"

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP UC Software Version or the BootROM Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition you did not tell us what VVX model you are using and if this is a expansion module with a LCD Display or the paperwhite.

Sorry about the lack of info.  I believe this will answer all of those questions:

We are currently trying to get this working on VVX600's with the LCD Display Expansion module in any version of UC after 5.3.0.  I have tried 5.3.0.12074, 5.3.1.0436 and 5.4.0.5841, the ones available via the Polycom hosted upgrade.

None of these versions have worked with buddy watch and the LED's.  The LED's flash when the phone is turned on, and nothing activates them after that.

We are using a SIP server running FreePBX.

Hello telma,

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

This may be simply not supported by the SIP server

Aug 06, 2013 Question: How can I use the Buddy Watch feature?

Buddy watch is working on the phones, and works on the sidecar with the little bubble icon next to the person's name, but the LED's don't work.  I know on the Polycom IP670's and their sidecars, the LED's and icons worked.  The VVX's just don't seem to be working

Hello telma_gor,

I think I miss understood the problem prior to this.

The original quoted post above is for BLF / Busy Lamp Field and the LED's work in that case.

For your Buddy Watch question I followed this up internally and the Buddy State is simply displayed via the LCD screen and the LED's are not active.

If a Paper White expansion module is used then the LED's work.

I will open a support case to work on getting this resolved further.  It looks like the line I was looking at in the FAQ only references lower level VVX phones, and evidently does not apply to the VVX500 and VVX600.
