I have a stock of VVX 500 phones.  Many have older firmware, and they are provisioning by plugging them into an embedded devices that uses DHCP option 66 to push the FTP credentials.  The phones then pull down their provisioning details and reboot.  During this process is the phone supposed to do a firmware update?

The above explains in detail what files are being loaded by a phone.

 

If the phones in question do not download any newer Firmware version please consult the logs.

 

If this does not lead you any further please work with your Polycom reseller to bring this to the attention of Polycom support.

Thanks again Steffen.  So just to reiterate, if everything goes correctly, the VVX500 phones _should_ download/install the newest firmware.  Regarding logs, are there any specific places one should look for firmware download/install failures?

Hello redwolf,

 

the APP_FILE_PATH="" section of a 00000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg will tell the phone what file should be loaded.

 

If there is no 00000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg the phone will not attempt to download any *.ld file.
