I upgraded our VVX500 phones from 4.0.4.2906 to latest (5.6.0.17325).

We have power saving enabled so screen turns off. When one of the 11 buddies on the home screen has a status change (ringing, on call, etc) the screen doesn't come on like it used to.

Am I missing a option somewhere or is this something related to the phone system (Elastix 2.4 Asterisk 1.8)

Thanks

Hello @Jac,

In my role as a Tier 3 and prior Tier 2 support engineer I have never seen such a request as it doesn't really make sense to wake the display up each and every time a status changes.

It would be on and off in some environments within seconds so therefore I can only assume it must have been a bug in such an early release (we introduced the VVX500 with software 4.0.0).

The unit was sold back in 2012 via Westcon Group Pty Ltd and if this issue really affects you and you do not want to downgrade you can always open a PPI / Pay Per Incident ticket.

Hello @Jac,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

A couple of your old posts => here <= are still open / pending as you have not marked these as "Accept as a solution" or at least provided some form of feedback or answer.

If they are in this state nobody finding them via a community search will know if an answer or advice provided was useful and has maybe helped you.

Could you therefore kindly go over them and mark or answer as appropriate ?

If they are marked as "Accept as a solution" other users can find these easier and it helps them to utilize the community more efficiently.

For your new issue I would assume the awakening of the display may have been by accident and has been corrected in any current software.

If the phone is in energy saving mode why should the display come on to show a status change ?

If you believe this to be a bug please open a service ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.

End Customers are unable to open a ticket directly with Polycom support.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post either your phone's MAC address or your Polycom devices serial so I can look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Polycom device from.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Hi Steffen,

I've marked old posts as accepted where appropiate.

I used a online retailer to purchase the phones years ago so I assume I'm not eligible for any kind of support but out of interest, here is one of the MAC addresses - 00:04:F2:AD:2E:C3

Well the alternative to the phone not coming out of energy save mode on BLF status change is for me to set phones to display idle all the time during business hours - much worse from an energy saving POV so I considered it appropiate behaviour.

If you are saying that the current behaviour is as expected, then I'll accept that and investigate my options.

Thanks

Fair enough, it suited our office usage really well but can understand in a high call situation the phones would be continually waking the screen.

I'll accept the answer and leave things as they are as idle screen in call feature is well worth the workaround.

Thanks
