I'm getting so frusterated with these phones.

I bought a used SP IP550 Rev AE  to run on my freepbx system.

I formated the device to clear out the old settings.

Now I have my ftp server setup and the phone is downloading correctly.

But I have tried over 50 sip.ld files and none work, it says not compatible with this phone

I have no clue what I need, I just need to the phone to boot and give me web access to dump in my sip info.

But because I formated it it's caught in a boot loop until I can figure out what software it needs to download..

Any help?

Thanks

Hello Funman1,

this is all explained in the FAQ.

You download a zip file with for example the split version and also the BoootROM.

Lets say UCS 3.3.4 and the BootROM 4.3.1

You unzip all into a directory and point your FTP User to that directory.

Point the Phone to the FTP server and use that user.

The Phone will boot and load the correct .ld file.

Again, if you have been sold a Beta Unit, written on the unit, it will not load a valid file as these Phones are property of Polycom.

Only the Boot & App log files on your FTP server will tell you what the Phone does.

Best Regards

Hello funman1,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

If worst comes worst someone sold you a beta unit which cannot be flashed by End Customers. These are marked on the back of the unit.

If this is a regular unit you can either flash UCS 4.0.x or an older Version.

Check your FTP Server for an app / boot log and check if it mentions a BootROM or Updater / Upgrader.

Above will get you a better idea what you can flash back on the Unit.

BootROM = everything UCS 3.3.4 or SIP 3.2.x or older.

Upgrader / Updater = Everything UCS 4.0.x or newer

All these separate software Versions can be downloaded by End Customers via the support page.

Please check the VoIP FAQ Section for more information => here <=.

Nope my FTP log does not even show the phone is attempting to write a log back 😞 I have tried the 4.1.2 Split files and tried ALL the sip.ld files Then downloaded 4.0.3 Rev F Split files and tired ALL the sip.ld files there too? This is so confusing and frusterating, I come from a land of Cisco SPA phones that JUST WORK. Where can I find out what what version is flashed?

Hello Funman1,

same here as with our competitors.

If the phone does not talk with the server then nothing will happen.

The Phone does not have a Version as you deleted it.

Please ensure the phone can communicate with the server (no firewall) and the phone will try and load it's correct .ld files and start writing log files.

Best Regards

Thank you, That's what I needed I was trying all the 4.x.x files previously. I downloaded the files "UC_Software_3_3_3_release_sig_split"

Then renamed "2345-12560-001.sip.ld" to just "sip.ld" and got my phone booted, programmed, and now working.

Thank you for the help.

Hello Steve,

just to clarify for the benefit of others.

  • I had advised you to download the UCS 3.3.4 Release yet you chose to download the UCS 3.3.3 instead.
  • I had not advised you to rename any files as this is not necesary.

When downloading any newer Software like UCS 4.0.x you have to tick the following disclaimer:

I have read the notices and accept the responsibility for reviewing the "upgrade" procedures required to install UCS 4.0.x software onto existing Polycom devices as well as for reviewing the extensive changes to the configuration parameters and processes that will affect the installation of the Polycom desktop phone products starting with UCS 3.3.0.

Without ticking this you are unable to download.

The disclaimer also clearly mentions this:

Before you download and install Polycom® UC Software version 4.0.x or higher, Polycom strongly recommends that you review the changes to the upgrade procedures detailed in the Polycom® UC Software 4.0.0 Administrators’ Guide or newer and Engineering Advisory 64731 Polycom® UC Software 4.0.0: Upgrade and Downgrade Methods.

Above Engineering advice explains in detail how to install the new software using the upgrader / updater.

Please ensure that you follow up the advice given as there was no need to rename any files and your reply may confuse other users.

Best Regards
