Hi  everyone,

I noticed that Polycom sends in the sdp response only the codec selected as the prefered codec. Is there a way to have it include all supported codecs received in the offer? I have tried uselegacypayload to force rfc3264 but the reply only has one codec.

Thanks

Brian

Hello Turnbow,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used SIP or UC Software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

Please also include if you are using a SIP server or a LYNC server

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

The above is also stated in the "Read First: Welcome to the Polycom VoIP Forum"

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP UC Software Version or the BootROM Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition its helpful to clarify what phone models you use as the answer may depend on this as well.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Hello ,

You have yet to clarify what phone models you use as 4.0.4 covers all compatible SPIP and SSIP phone and in addition the VVX500.

UC Software 4.0.9 is the latest supported version and it should support RFC 3264 via for example voIpProt.SDP.useLegacyPayloadTypeNegotiation.

Please check the admin guide on its usage and provide a more detailed call setup scenario so I can either reply or make you aware how to raise a feature request via a Polycom reseller.

Hello Steffen,

We use vvx 1500 500 400 as well as regular 331 450 etc phones, as well as ip5000 conferencing units. so take your pick.

What we see is that a sip offer comes in listing X codecs , i.e. g711a g711u g729 etc and the phone will give a reply that contains only one codec , i.e. g729.

I have read the manual and it just says that it wil activare rfc 3264 or "legacy mode"  not how the codecs will be handled.

Rfc 3264 allows both a respnse with a single  prefered codec or a response with a list of supported codecs, and your documentation does not specify if it is possible to change the default behavior (which from our tests is just send prefered codec). Or if it does I could not find it.

What I am trying to find out is if there is a way to have polycom phones reply with all supported codecs ( or even a subset) as to just reply with the prefered codec.

I hope this helps clear up what I am asking.

Best Regards

Brian
