Is it possible to intercom an associate from one phone to another? Calling another handset and the person on the other end answering without touching the phone so that they do not have to free themselves from their work. We could do this with our previous phone system and are lost without it!

Hello graph,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Oct 25, 2011 Question: How can I change my Ringtone or Ring in a special manner for a certain incoming call?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above post explains how to utilize SIP headers.

In addition since UCS 4.0.0 you can also use the PTT (push-to-talk) functionality. This can be changed via the Web Interface Settings > Paging/PTT Configuration.

Does the PTT allow for hands free? No need to touch the phone whatsoever for the answering phone and both sides can hear each other?

Hello Graph,

no, the Push to talk requires the other end to press a button as as the name of the functionality already suggests. Its more a feature for larger groups.

The initial reply with the FAQ post does exactly what you want but depends on the availability to modify the SIP Invite.

Best Regards

Hello pscomm,

welcome to the Polycom Community. I am not sure what Video you are referring to but you simply enable Push to Talk and it work.

Resolution: Please check => here <=

You can use it either on hands free or lifting your handset.

You may want to add a soft key:

If the extension is not tied to a direct line (a telephone number that can be reached from Outside) you can turn the Auto-Answer fetaure ON. This would allow Push-To-Talk to work the way you want it. When you dial an extension like this, the phone on the other end would Auto-Answer.

To turn Auto-Answer ON,

 - Press Home

-->Settings

-->Basic

-->Preferences

-->Auto Answer

-->Auto Answer SIP Calls. Change this to YES from NO.

That's it!

Special Note: If you turn this feature 'ON' on an extension with a Direct line assigned to it, all incoming calls, even the ones from outside, will auto-answer.
