Hello, I am looking to setup a bunch of standalone VVX500 handsets we already have that are no longer in service, to use as department-to-department phones, just so any employee can pickup common area phones and ring another department, for quick internal communications.

Is this possible to do without having ringcentral or other ip phones services and phone numbers. Just one extension to call another extension and nothing else.

I really appreciate any help, links, or general direction as to how to go about this. If I have to dedicate an onsite server or vm to do so that is fine. I just don't know if it is possible or where to begin.

Hello @kttk ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

Both the communities Must Read First and the FAQ reference the basic minimum information a new or follow-up post should contain. The FAQ especially covers many questions that have already been answered and therefore should be consulted prior to posting.

You do not really need a server if you want to set these up but an Asterisk Server or similar will make things far easier.

A simply solution could be buddy watch:

As the phones do not have an extension you would be doing IP calling but you would need to reserve the IP's on the DHCP Server.

Using an Asterisk or similar free SIP server would get around this. You can then also set up intercom calling:

On its own the phones also support:
