Hi,

My SoundStation IP 7000 starts unlocked, although I have configured it the following way:

<phoneLock
    phoneLock.enabled="1"
    phoneLock.browserEnabled="0"
    phoneLock.dndWhenLocked="0"
    phoneLock.idleTimeout="300"
    phoneLock.lockState="0"
    phoneLock.powerUpUnlocked="0"
    >
</phoneLock>

The timeout is working, however, if I reboot the device while it is unlocked, it is also unlocked after starting.

If I reboot the device while it is locked, it is also locked after a reboot.

Is there something I need in addition to that entry in order to have in _locked_ after each reboot?

Kind regards,

Reth4Ku

Hi,

This means, you don't support your supported software from a support perspective. Great 😉

For me, this is an indication that Polycom phones should not be bought/rolled out in enterprises and I will reconsider buying more of the Soundstation IP 7000 for our planned solution.

Thanks,

Reeth4Ku

Hello Reth4Ku,

It is always useful to include the currently used software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP UC Software Version or the BootROM Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Hello Reth4Ku,

most pf the parameters you specified are standard settings and therefore do not require any change to them.

This FAQ post here (in addition to the Admin Guide):

Apr 23, 2013 Question: How can I lock my phone?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

details how to utilize the phone lock option.

In addition the Software Version you are using is no longer supported. You should be using UCS 4.0.7 instead.

Hi,

> most pf the parameters you specified are standard settings and therefore do not require any change to them.

Does this help for my problem, i.e., that the phone does not boot locked when it is rebooted unlocked even though I specified

phoneLock.powerUpUnlocked="0"

In your linked FAQ to http://community.polycom.com/t5/VoIP/FAQ-How-can-I-lock-my-phone/td-p/33330 there is written:

phoneLock.powerUpUnlocked 0 or 1 0 If 0, the phone is locked it powers up. If 1, the phone is unlocked when it powers up.

This does _not_ work for me. I have already read this page and multiple others.

Additionally, you state that "In addition the Software Version you are using is no longer supported. You should be using UCS 4.0.7 instead."

According to the Software Release Matrix http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html my current release is a) the shipping release (green color) (and, if it is no longer supported: as I bought the phone recently, why do you ship phones with outdated software you do not support any more?) and b) it is still supported (yellowish color means "Supported GA Release").

Therefore, what is wrong that my phone does not boot locked after rebooting in an unlocked state?

Kind regards,

Reeth4Ku

Hello Reth4Ku,

If a Parameter has a standard value i.e phoneLock.powerUpUnlocked=”0” then you do not need to add this to a configuration file as that is the default parameter anyway.

The reference to an unsupported software is from a support perspective.

The factory software is carefully planned in order to suit all our global partners worldwide who use their own due diligence in order to verify and certify several different versions of software.

From an end user perspective you should ensure that you are using the latest supported software version in case you need to raise a support ticket via your Polycom reseller.

UCS 4.0.0 or later offers the possibility to simply enable the Lock functionality via the web interface and I briefly tested this with a SSIP 7000 running UCS 4.0.7 and the phone reboots and is in a locked state.

Please upgrade your phone and then follow the updated FAQ and if you are still experiencing issues raise this with Polycom support via your Polycom reseller.

Best Regards

Hello Reth4Ku,

you can run any software version that is compatible with your phone as long as you do not require support.

From a support perspective we cannot attempt and troubleshoot any issues that may have long been fixed in a newer software version.

Please go ahead and update your software to a current version as UCS 3.3.3 is from back in 2011.

As stated above I have replicated the phone lock using UCS 4.0.7 and it works as it should.

Hi,

So you're selling devices in 2014 which have software on it from 2011 and expect that customers, as their first action when they want to use their phones as advertised, upgrade their newly bought phones in order to receive support?

Kind regards,

Reeth4Ku

Hello Reth4Ku,

as explained above the phones are shipped with a certain software version installed on them.

Polycom periodically updates the shipping configurations of the SoundPoint IP, SoundStation IP, and VVX business media phones.

The Polycom® Engineering Advisories and Technical Notifications page => here <= lists the Product Shipping Configuration Change Notice. The latest one is dated back in May 2014 or April 2014.

In April we informed our partners that we plan to change the Software from UCS 3.3.3 to UCS 4.0.4

As explained earlier you can perfectly run your SSIP7000 using UCS 3.3.3 but as you seem to have an issue with the phone lock feature I advised yourself to ensure you are running the latest software.

The new UCS 4.0.0 release inlcudes various enhancements to the user interface and enables yourself to simply import configuration files or make easy changes via the web interface.

If you prefer not to upgrade your software and require support you will need to work with your Polycom reseller directly.
