License requirements:

Using LYNC or Skype for Business with non LYNC or Skype for Business SKU's

Phones purchased, which are not from Factory Default in Skype for Business Mode (-019 models), require an individual Polycom per device license.  Many users unknowingly make the mistake and are not aware of this requirement.

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

Additional License Requirements:

Most additional features like the corporate directory used to require a license.

Depending on the current software version of the phone the requirement for these should be checked against the relevant software release notes.

Newer versions like UCS 3.3.0 or later no longer have these requirements for some or all features the prior to this needed a license (excluded are for example H.323 on a normal VVX1500 or the Voice quality monitoring)

Free Site License (excluding VQMon) can be found => here <=.

Troubleshooting License Issues:

Check if a valid License is installed on the Phone via:

Press Menu Key => select Status => select Licenses

A valid License will be displayed.

Ensure that the Feature has actually been loaded / activated from a configuration file on a Provisioning Server:

Example for the Activation of the Corporate Directory:

UC Software 3.3.0 or later

<feature feature.corporateDirectory.enabled="1"/>

SIP Software > 3.2.x or older

<feature feature.19.name="corporate-directory" feature.19.enabled="1"/>

NOTE: Please ensure that the SIP / UC Software is supporting the functionality you are trying to activate!

UC Software 4.0.0 already includes licenses for the most common features. Please check the UC Software 4.0.0 Admin Guide or newer for more details.

Adding a License to a phone:

In order to load a license on the phone a server is needed. Please follow up this post on how to utilize a server to provision the phone:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

The license file needs to be place into the directory that contains the phone software.
