Please see this as an example of how to utilize the Login Functionality introduced in UC Software 4.0.0 with a standard user and the login possibility for a specific user.

It may be called Hot Desking or Extension mobility on other Platforms.

A more detailed explanation is hosted on the Feature Descriptions & Technical Notifications Page => here <=

NOTE: Please check the Admin Guide for more details or additional features!

Explanation:

The below example assumes a phone would always be registered in the environment so emergency calls can be made. The phone is registered but not logged in.

You can use the 000000000000.cfg or a individual <mac>.cfg to provision the Phone with a Standard User.

As an example use the attached Archives 000000000000.zip with the attached 0004f217ade0-default.zip

The 000000000000.cfg contains:

...

<APPLICATION APP_FILE_PATH="sip.ld" CONFIG_FILES="[MACADDRESS]-default.cfg" MISC_FILES="" LOG_FILE_DIRECTORY="" OVERRIDES_DIRECTORY="" CONTACTS_DIRECTORY="" LICENSE_DIRECTORY="" USER_PROFILES_DIRECTORY="" CALL_LISTS_DIRECTORY="">

...

Above loads for the Phone via the Substitution String [MACADDRESS] the 0004f217ade0-default.cfg

The 0004f217ade0-default.cfg contains:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Application SIP Mink 4.0.0.26884 -->
<Default_CONFIG>
	<OVERRIDES
		prov.login.enabled="1"
		reg.1.address="3000"
		reg.1.auth.password="3000"
		reg.1.auth.userId="3000"
		reg.1.displayName="3000"
		reg.1.label="3000"
		reg.1.server.1.address="asterisk16.t2voice.tech-support.lab"
		/>
</Default_CONFIG>

After originally booting the Phone it will be registered with the Extension 3000.

The new User 3100 Details that in below example are utilized are provided in the attached Archive 3100.zip. The 3100.cfg File contains the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Application SIP Mink 4.0.0.26884 -->
<User_CONFIG>
	<OVERRIDES
		prov.login.localPassword="123"
		reg.1.address="3100"
		reg.1.auth.password="3100"
		reg.1.auth.userId="3100"
		reg.1.displayName="3100"
		reg.1.label="3100"
		reg.1.server.1.address="asterisk16.t2voice.tech-support.lab"
		/>
</User_CONFIG>

The User has the Option to Log in:

The User will get prompted to add their User ID

Note: the standard input method is lower case alphabetical!

The User Id must match the file we provided for this user. In our example 3100 (3100.cfg).

The Password is next:

image

Note: the standard input method is numerical!

The Password in this example is 123 (prov.login.localPassword="123")

Press the Log In Softkey to proceed

The Phone will now load the Directory and Caller List for the selected User:

The new User 3100 is now logged into the Phone.

The next User or the User logged on can now choose to Log out:

NOTE: After a reboot, the original User 3000.cfg will be logged in!

More than 1 line:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Application SIP Mink 4.0.0.26884 -->
<User_CONFIG>
	<OVERRIDES
		prov.login.localPassword="123"
		reg.1.address="3100"
		reg.1.auth.password="3100"
		reg.1.auth.userId="3100"
		reg.1.displayName="3100"
		reg.1.label="3100"
		reg.1.server.1.address="10.252.149.122"
		reg.2.address="3033"
		reg.2.auth.password="3033"
		reg.2.auth.userId="3033"
		reg.2.displayName="3033"
		reg.2.label="3033"
		reg.2.server.1.address="10.252.122.122"
		/>
</User_CONFIG>

Please be aware that the menus may look different on other phone models!

An automated, not Polycom supported PERL script creating these files can be found => here <=

UC Software 5.5.0 or later:

UCS 5.5.0 added the below:

prov.login.password.encodingMode Abc, ABC, abc, 123 123

This parameter configures the default encoding mode for the text in the Password field in User Login screen

and

prov.login.userId.encodingMode Abc, ABC, abc, 123 Abc

Configures the default encoding mode for the text in the User ID field in User Login screen
